Vision Statement: Guardian Christian Academy partners with parents to provide their children with a distinctly biblical and academically excellent education that develops the body, mind, and soul, equipping students to become godly leaders and to successfully engage the culture for Christ.

The staff of Guardian Christian Academy partner with parents to educate students. GCA teachers are committed to the development of strong minds and godly characters. With an average class size of thirteen students, each child is viewed as an individual with specific strengths and characteristics, and communication with parents is consistent and on-going.

Instruction is based on GCA-written curriculum guides which include the skills and concepts found in Virginia’s SOLs and many more.  Our primary textbook instruction comes from the BJU Press publishing company. It also comes through additional printed and non-printed resources at all levels.  Textbook instruction is very much supplemented through a variety of other resources at all levels, both printed and non-printed.

A mixture of off and on-site experiences and activities serve a variety of purposes. Among those are: to introduce a concept, to act as a culminating activity, to provide hands-on learning, to apply knowledge to today’s world, to serve as a motivational tool, to provide experiences that students may not otherwise have.

Students at Guardian Christian Academy participate in ACSI Student Activities across the commonwealth. GCA has participated -and done well-in Math Olympics, Spelling Bees, Speech Bees, Science Fairs, Creative Writing Festivals, Art Festivals, and Desktop Publishing.  Students participate in the variety show and have opportunities for more.

Each spring GCA students take a standardized national achievement test. The results are provided for the parents as well as for the school. Through these achievement tests staff members are able to easily assess strengths and weaknesses and make adjustments on an individual level, grade level, and school-wide level.

The upper grades of Guardian Christian Academy continue the foundation laid in the elementary years.  Personal individual attention in a small classroom setting provides needed guidance as well as instruction as students mature into young men and women.  Given from a biblical perspective, character development and civic responsibility are on the list of those things fostered in the secondary grades at GCA.  Beyond the academic, students are taught to recognize their blessings, and, both as individuals and as a group, give back through missions and community service.

Academically, the secondary grades at GCA are geared toward preparation for college and the pursuit of a career beyond the college years.  Course instruction is designed to challenge students intellectually, promote a drive for excellence, and build each student’s level of personal responsibility.  In addition to standard core academic subjects of English, Math, Science, and History, students gain instruction in the areas of Bible, Foreign Language, Technology, Fine Arts, Personal Finance and Economics, all as a part of required coursework.  Opportunities for various elective courses are also afforded students at the middle and high school level.

Recognizing that the physical is closely tied to both intellect and personal health, physical education and activity, including health and competitive athletics, are built into the program at GCA.  In-class Drivers Education is a part of the Health curriculum for students in the ninth and tenth grades.  In addition, talents, personal interests, and professional exploration are encouraged and fostered both in and out of the classroom through elective coursework, clubs, student activities, and through the completion of a Senior Thesis.  Students who graduate from Guardian Christian Academy will, through meeting the requirements for their Senior Thesis and Advanced Studies Diploma, have had the opportunity to enhance their academic coursework in a personalized area of interest, complete on-line advanced or collegiate level coursework, and gain hands-on experience in their chosen field.

Guardian Christian Academy is the Home of the Royal Knights and is a member of the Virginia Metro Athletic Conference (VMAC).  Students in 5th grade and above are eligible to try out for volleyball, basketball, soccer, cross country, girls sideline cheer, and girls competitive cheer. Teamwork, sportsmanship, Christ-like responses, and setting and achieving personal goals are emphasized along with skill development.

Secondary Grading Scale

As students transition into middle school and then into high school Guardian Christian Academy’s grading scale also moves to a 10-point scale. In doing so, GCA places students on a competitive field with those of other private and public schools as their transcripts are considered for college admissions.
