It is our conviction that appropriate attire has a significant affect upon the attitude of the student and the atmosphere of the classroom.  Since school is in a sense a student’s place of business, GCA’s standardized dress is designed to promote a sense of a “work atmosphere” where children and youth are responsible to perform to the best of their ability.

General Student Appearance Policies

  • Dictating a specific length is difficult because students’ height – and even arm length – varies. We prefer that parents, when unsure, guide their children to wear garments which are on the conservative side rather than GCA having to dictate and enforce specific requirements.  You may be called to bring a change of clothing if apparel is considered inappropriate, shirt/skirt/shorts are too tight/short, or soiled.
  • Students who attend ACSI Student Activities represent the school as well as themselves. As such, the students wear the attire described below for Special Occasions.  Adults attending ACSI Student Activities wear comparable dress attire – men in slacks and dress shirts, women in dresses/skirts/dressy slacks.
  • Students’ bodies grow quickly. Be prepared to purchase larger clothes as they grow.  This allows them to be comfortable, move safely, and not be self-conscious in their apparel.
    • Clothing should not be tight.
    • Shirts must cover the whole stomach, even with arms raised.
    • Pants must cover the belly and the area below the waist.
    • Pants should cover the leg but not be so long the child walks or can trip on the hem.
    • Parents of young girls whose bodies are becoming those of young women need to insure the girls are wearing bras/training bras on a daily basis for the psychological comfort of those around them and the physical and emotional comfort of the girls themselves.
  • Cleanliness and good grooming habits are necessary and expected. Students should come to school clean: clean clothes, hair combed, teeth brushed, etc.  Body piercings, tattoos, make-up, and unnaturally-colored hair that is distracting to others, excessive, or counterculture is not acceptable.  Decisions are at administrative discretion.
  • Boys’ hair should not only be clean and combed, but be trimmed above the eyebrows and off the collar.
  • Parents will be notified in writing or electronically if there is to be a deviation from the dress code. It is the parent’s responsibility to be aware of communications which frequently come in the form of school newsletters, teacher notes, emails, grade level/class newsletters, facebook, or on signed papers.
