Thoughts from a Senior

“When this [school campus closing due to government restrictions] first began and we gathered our things from school I thought that it would just be temporary, but little did I know that day would be my last time in the building as a student. At first, I was upset and wondering, why now? Out of all the times that this could have happened, why the the last portion of senior year? My last soccer season and ending of my fame cheer family all finishing without a goodbye. But as time passed I realized that I was just looking at it through the wrong lens. After devotional time and thought, I saw our situation in a way of teaching, the Lord teaching me to appreciate what I have and not take it for granted, for even a second, because you never know what you have until it’s gone. He shut the whole world down with the snap of a finger, and if that doesn’t show His power, then I don’t know what does. The time that I’ve spent at home, yes, may be sad in the sense that I miss my GCA family, but I’ve gotten to spend quality time with my family here, before I move to NC at the end of summer. And there’s not a thing in the world that I would trade that for. So at the beginning, I saw no positive aspects to what was happening, but after taking a step back, I see how this has taught and prepared me to learn independently. It’s shown me the self-discipline I will need for college soon. But most of all this has shown me the need for unity as I’ve watched America work together and turn to Him for guidance, more than I have ever seen. At the end of the day, I know this is only resting in the hands of the one who knows it all, so my worry does nothing. It’s been far from easy, and I don’t know what will happen tomorrow or what graduation will look like. But I do know that walking in faith is far better than walking in fear. So for now, as I don’t know what tomorrow holds, I will firmly believe with all my heart, that the pain we have been feeling cannot compare to the joy that is coming, and that is all I need.”
